Biography:
Born during the Great Depression in Los Angeles. Started drawing as a child during Word War II.
Formal art training at Chouinard Art Institute, Los Angeles in the 1950s.
Earned a B.A. and M.A. in Anthropology at California State University, Los Angeles in the 1970s.
Held various jobs including Jazz saxophonist, truck driver, silk screen printer, industrial photographer and technical writer before becoming a full-time artist in 2003.
Moved to Southern Nevada in 2004 where I live and work today.
I was greatly influenced by the music of Charley Parker, John Coltrane, Miles Davis and other Jazz musicians for their improvisational skills. I try to use these attributes in my painting.
Painters that have influenced me are Klee, Miro, Kandinsky, Pollock, Rothko, Kline and De Kooning.
Exhibited widely in Las Vegas, Los Angeles and New York City.
Painting, digital art and photography, travel, fomerly running, now walking, reading.
Music:
Was influenced by the jazz of Charlie Parker, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, etc. My interest also runs to acoustic music such as Folk and Blues. Some of the artists I'm currently listening to are Tim Hardin, Fred Neal, Dylan. Also Mozart is a big favorite.
Films:
I like a lot of films from the 60s and 70s such as Midnight Cowboy, The Graduate, Apocalyps Now, Taxi Driver, etc.
