Robert Reece is one of Los Angeles’s most exciting emerging artists. His contemporary abstract work seeks to explore the universal dichotomies of fate and freewill, yin and yang, passivity and violence. Upon studying his canvases, one will see various layers of precise, geometric shapes and lines representative of those things in nature we believe we have control over. As a counterpoint with these ideas are organic movements, sometimes lyrical, sometimes violent, that remind us how desultory forces are always swirling around us that may not ever be explained by chaos theory or fractal geometry.
Some of Robert’s earliest memories are of his mother, an award-winning watercolorist, teaching painting classes in their home. In his youth, her college textbooks on Art History, Perspective, and Color Theory would prove to be Robert’s initial education in art. More formally, Robert went on to receive degrees in Visual Communications and Cinema Studies. From there he worked as a photographer in Milan, Vienna, and Hollywood. Robert also works as a screenwriter, completing projects for Warner Bros., Fox, Paramount, and Disney while his short fiction has been published in literary magazines around the country.
